Never Stop Working

Lockport Campus Friends,

I came by the Lockport Campus a few days ago and as I got out of my truck I noticed something on one of the windows.  As I got closer I could see it was an oversized orange sticker with big black letters on it that read “Stop Work”.  As I looked closer, the sticker said that we had to immediately stop work on the building because of permitting issues.  After, I came to and stopped rocking back crying in the fetal position, I remembered that I shouldn’t be surprised that this happened.

We all may have slipped into a relaxing state of Christian Peace as we bounce along in our Christian Bubble listening to our Christian songs and wearing our Christian t-shirts entirely too giddy about opening this new Church.  We have forgotten that we are in a vicious battle against a ruthless enemy who is hell-bent on stopping us.  The fact that we are in the process of planting another Church is setting off some serious alarms in Satan’s camp and he is not happy, to put it lightly.  He is on red-alert and is doing everything he can to put a “Stop Work” sticker on this project for good.

I bring this to our attention because although we are ultimately in a battle against a defeated enemy, he is still fighting and he doesn’t fight fair.  He will attack you through doubt, fear, frustration, and turmoil.  He will attack your attitude, spirit, and confidence.  He will attack your marriage, friendships, and health.  When he senses a weakness he will attack you however, wherever, and whenever he can.

Your response to these attacks needs to be effective and consistent.  Smile, pray like crazy, and never ever stop working.  If you are able to smile, knowing you are facing a defeated enemy, you can get past these challenges easier.  Pray that God will continue to strengthen and protect you as you push forward on this journey.  And most importantly, never stop working toward the goal God has called us to.  Use these challenges as reason to believe something great is going to happen.  Ask yourself this question; “Why would Satan be worried about stopping this Church if something amazing wasn’t going to happen?”  The answer is simple, he wouldn’t care at all.  Think about it, he certainly wouldn’t waste the short amount of time he has left before Christ returns on something that wasn’t going to do amazing things for the Kingdom.

So the sheer fact that he is focusing his attention and effort on this campus by delaying shipments, putting goofy stop work stickers on the building, stressing out staff, and making some of you just nervous about this whole journey just goes to show you that something special is about to happen.  God is going to rock some worlds at this campus and people’s lives are going to be changed for eternity.  If that wasn’t enough, we get to be a part of it!!!

So as the weeks grow closer to our opening, and the stress begins to mount and the tasks seem too big, just remember that we will never Stop Working.  We will press on with God as our leader and continue to build this Campus for Christ!

A New Spring In My Step

Lockport Campus Friends,

Last weekend I was fortunate enough to visit New Spring Church (www.newspring.cc) in Anderson, SC.  New Spring is a church that started with 8 people in their Senior Pastor, Perry Noble’s, living room back in 1996.  In 12 short years God has blessed them immensely and it now is a fast-growing, innovative church of over 10,000 people.  Their vision is cast through these 4 E’s.  Engage the Culture, Enlarge the Kingdom, Endure Together, and Enable to Serve.   I can honestly say that in my short time there and my interaction with their staff they are all are committed to this vision.  It drives them, it consumes them, and it inspires them to impact their world for Christ. They truly are an outward focused Church with a passion to live dangerously for Christ and live this life with a sense of urgency.  They live urgently because they know that this life is short and Heaven and Hell are very real.

In fact they are so committed to impacting this world for Jesus that just like Parkview they are starting their first Multisite Video venue on July 12th.  This campus will be a 1,200 seat venue situated in Greenville, SC.  Residing in a renovated grocery store, the campus will have live worship, full children’s programming, student ministry, full service Coffee Shop, and your bulletin can be given to you in paper or plastic bags.  Ok the paper or plastic thing is a joke, but you get the idea.   Please pray for this campus and their Campus Pastor Howard Frist as they open their doors in less than 2 weeks!

All that to say, that what brought a “New Spring” to my step was not the amazing worship, or solid preaching, or even the obvious commitment to excellence that the Church displays, but rather it was the genuine heart of service the Church had that blew me away.  Now don’t get too concerned, I’m not going to drool over the thousands of volunteers they have or the 90 person staff they run.  But what did make my heart jump was the excitement they showed in serving.  It was awesome to hear them talk about how excited and privileged they felt to serve Christ.  They beamed as they handed out pens and bulletins.  They smiled as they washed down windows and doors between services.  They laughed as they worked together in the Coffee bar making mochas and lattes for people.  They had a joy about them that as they served it made me want to jump in and help them and I don’t even go there!

I could see that they loved to serve because they understood that serving was part of what made them part of New Spring Church.  They knew it was a huge part of showing Christ that they loved Him, and an enormous part of showing Christ’s love.  And what blew me away even more was that at New Spring Church, serving was not an option – it was a must.  If you considered New Spring your home Church – they expected you to serve.  So…they dive into serving feet first and I would argue that not one of them would regret it.

Oh, I forgot to mention something about their first multisite campus. The new campus they are starting in Greenville will have right around 700 people coming to the campus from their Anderson Campus.  552 of them will be volunteering right away when the doors open.  For you statistic freaks out there that is almost 80% of the people starting the church will be serving.

Just like the congregation of New Spring Church, you have the opportunity to be part of something ground breaking – not only for the history of Parkview, but in the Kingdom of God.  That’s right; you are being given the opportunity to partner with the Creator of the universe to start a Church.  You are being provided the chance to work elbow-to-elbow with the God that parted the Red Sea in the days of Moses.  You are being handed an invitation to help lead people to Christ for the first time.  You are being shown a way that you can impact this world in a way that affects people’s eternity and in some cases it is as simple as passing communion, running a light board, hosting a small group, teaching children, parking cars, or showing people to a seat in the Worship Center.  My challenge to you is this… like the members of New Spring Church have done, step up and be willing to serve!

I pray that as this Campus opens and people start streaming through the doors to find Christ that you haven’t missed out.  I hope that you don’t find yourself someday sitting on your front porch telling yourself that you “were almost part of something great at that Parkview Lockport Campus”.  I hope you don’t have to tell your friends that you “could have been a part of that great Church that is doing so much in the community”.  I pray daily that you can walk with your head high and proud saying to anyone that asks “I serve at Parkview Christian Church~Lockport because I love God and because of that love I love to serve”.

My challenge stands…what are you waiting for?

Surviving the Storm

CANAL PARADE DAYS ~ WE HAD A BLAST!

I think it was safe to say that all of us that walked the Lockport Canal Days Parade gained an entirely new respect for the inventor of the umbrella. We had a great time walking and floating through the rain, rain, rain, and more rain! Nonetheless it was a very fun time getting to know each other a little better and sharing some great Jimbo’s Pizza afterwards. Here are some pictures to share.

Getting To Know Vida Nueva Ministries

Dear Friends,

I wanted to introduce you to one of the missions we have adopted at the Lockport Campus called Vida Nueva Ministries.  In their own words, “Vida Nueva Ministries is an independent Christian ministry, not a social agency. Our programs are designed to practically impact a physical, social, or moral need, and do so in order to nurture the affected individual's or community's receptiveness to learning more about the Savior in whose Name these needful actions are done.  Everything we do is designed to enhance opportunities to address the eternal, spiritual needs of the individual.

Vida Nueva directs such ministries as food distribution, health care, child care, education, worship, recreation, vocational skills training, church planting and church leadership training programs. All of these programs serve to connect people with Christ so that He can bring them hope and freedom from the vicious cycle of poverty and spiritual emptiness from which many suffer.”

Recently the annual bike donations that had been collected over the last year were picked up by Jair and Chava from Vida Nueva.  These bikes are used to further the ministry outreach of Vida Nueva in Mexico by providing transportation to the children at the Children’s Home.  I have added some pictures of the bike pick below, but I am thrilled to hear about the work they are doing in Mexico and look forward to continuing to support their efforts.

You can learn more about this ministry at www.vnmi.orgPlease continue to Pray for Jair and his wife Norma as they continue to impact Mexico for Jesus!

Look Out Lockport Here Comes Parkview!

Canal Days Parade – WE STILL NEED YOU!!!

This Friday June 20th the annual Canal Days Parade will once again be travelling through downtown Lockport and we need your help!  If you would like to join us in introducing ourselves to the community, we would love have you walk the parade route, toss some candy, hand out a few Frisbees, and get to know each other a little better.  We still need your help so please contact Pat and JoAnn McDonald at patm@wenetwork.com and let them know you are on board!

Dear Friends,

I just wanted to give you an update about a few new developments in the Parkview Lockport Campus.

Construction Update as of June 17!

Construction has reached the point where inspections are needed before we push forward.  This should happen in the next couple of days and we will continue moving forward right on schedule.

I took some time today to review with our Interiors Consultant the renovation plans which include carpets, tile, paint colors, and other modifications.  Being a guy I’m about as excited as I can get about that stuff, but I honestly do believe that it is going to look awesome!

We also are finalizing the Audio/Visual portions of the project and I am very excited about the sound that we will be able to produce in the new space.  I think that it is safe to say that we are going to really be able to rock and roll for Jesus!  Here is an example picture of a church similar to ours and their set-up.

Lockport Campus Mile Markers

Many of you may be wondering how we are coming along in this whole process.  Several questions come up about how the number of families going over is coming together and where can I help?  I think that it is very important to keep everyone up to speed on where we are at as we get closer to our Launch Date.  Starting with this blog, I will be giving you 3 key mile markers to monitor along the journey.  We will touch on these at the gatherings, but please make sure you keep these in prayer and act where appropriate.

Mile Marker                           End Goal                     Status as of June 17, 2008

Who Doesn't Love A Parade?

Friends,

I just wanted to give you some updates about new developments at the Parkview Lockport Campus.

Canal Days Parade – Friday June 20th

Our marketing campaign is in full force right now and we are receiving several calls already about the Church. However, we have a great opportunity to introduce Parkview~Lockport to nearly the entire city of Lockport coming up. On Friday June 20th the annual Canal Days Parade will once again be travelling through downtown Lockport and we need your help! If you would like to join us in introducing ourselves to the community, we would love have you walk the parade route, toss some candy, hand out a few Frisbees, and get to know each other a little better.

Don’t forget we want to make a great first impression!  Please don’t leave 5 of us out there throwing 1000 Frisbees and fighting off a gang of sugar-deprived, sunburned 6 year olds attempting to hijack our truck full of tootsie rolls and Aloe Vera. Let’s show Lockport that we are an exciting Church that is on fire for Christ and loves to have fun too! We need YOU do to that so sign up to help.  Pat and JoAnn McDonald have offered to head up the parade.  Please contact them at patm@wenetwork.com and let them know you are on board!

Construction Continues

We are continuing to make great headway on the Church and God is so evident in the whole process.  Our timetable is right where we want it to be, equipment is being ordered, our audio/visual consultants are very excited about the system they have designed, and the neighbors are starting to ask questions so we must be doing something right.

Here are some pictures of the worship center.

Key Prayer Areas

1.      Pray for God’s steady hand in the project and for the people that will be affected by this new campus for eternity.

2.      Pray for continued guidance and strength for the leadership of the new Campus.  Keep Satan away from them and guide through the storms that will come.

3.      Pray for the construction process that no one gets injured and that the project stays on time and on budget.

4.      Pray that additional people step up to serve in some capacity at the new capacity.  We have many spaces still open on our Serving and Small Group grids, which mean we need servants to step up and lead.

Let the Dust Begin to Fly!!!

Dear Lockport Campus Core,

Here are few updates from the Parkview Lockport Campus.

Lockport Children’s Director Position Opening

Campus Director of Children’s Ministries – Lockport Campus (Part time – 20 hours)

The Kidz Connection Children’s Ministry at Parkview is currently seeking a Campus Director of Children’s Ministries for the Lockport Campus.  This leadership position requires a team player with a love for children and a concern for their spiritual growth. The Campus Director of Children’s Ministry will cast vision and develop and oversee volunteers, programs and curriculum to provide a biblically-based, well-rounded ministry to children birth-5th grade. Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of leadership experience in children’s ministry birth-5th grade. If you have a passion for children and for growing this new Parkview Church in Lockport, please submit your resume and experience information to Lori Salomo, Director of Children’s Ministries, at lori.salomo@parkviewchurch.com.  For further information about this position, go online at http://www.parkviewchurch.com/about/employment.html.

Construction Has Begun!

First of all, a big thanks to all who helped moving at the Lockport Campus last week to prepare for the beginning of renovations.  We got done just in the knick of time because literally hours after we left the demolition teams were on-site striping down sheet rock, knocking out walls, reinforcing beams,  removing ceiling grids, and otherwise just making a really big mess.  All that to say, it is awesome to see work in action knowing that this is nothing compared to the renovation that God will be doing in the hearts of the people of Lockport.

Here are some pictures to give you a flavor of what is going on inside the walls of the Church.

Renovation Start & New Hires!!!

Dear Lockport Campus Core,

I just wanted to give you a heads up about a few new developments in the Parkview Lockport Campus

Construction Start Date

I am excited to say that renovations on the Lockport Campus will begin on Tuesday May 27!  Most likely, additional parking will be added first followed by interior work.  However, God has truly blessed us with a great building so our interior work will mainly be in finishes, audio visual enhancements, and small structural modifications to our front lobby.  Please pray for this process as we move forward and I will continue to provide new details and images as they come together!

New Additions to the Lockport Campus Staff

I am very excited to announce that we have filled two of our staff positions for the Lockport Campus.  Please help me welcome our new team members.

Joyce Renik has accepted the position of part-time Administrative Assistant.  Joyce comes to Parkview Lockport with an extensive administrative and corporate background beginning in 1993.  Joyce along with her husband Rich and their 3 children Olivia, Emily, and Joseph are thrilled to be a part of this new adventure.  She is a huge addition to this budding staff and I’m honored to have her on our team.

JoAnn McDonald has accepted the position of part-time Early Childhood Coordinator.  JoAnn comes to us with a degree in Early Childhood Education and tremendous experience in the field of Early Childhood Education.  Since 1999, she has been working as a pre-school educator as well as serving passionately in the Nursery and Pre-school departments of her churches for over 20 years.  Her husband Pat will be heading up our Communion Ministry at Lockport and both of them are excited to be a part of this great Campus.
